Markt to Boschstraat

Start on Markt and head north along Boschstraat. The change in scale is part of the walk: the small streets of the centre give way to the larger structures of the former factory district. Keep time for the passage rather than treating the route as a direct walk to dinner.

Read Sphinxpassage

The tiled display covers manufacturing and the people who worked in it. Read a selection of panels slowly enough to follow the story. The district’s reuse is easier to understand once you have seen what the factories produced and how the industry shaped life in Maastricht.

Continue around the Bassin

Walk towards the harbour and look across the water before choosing where to stop. Lumière occupies a former industrial setting and makes a useful finish. If you want a film, book around the screening time; otherwise keep the café or dinner as the end of the walk.

Add Frontenpark

With more daylight, extend west towards Frontenpark before returning to the Bassin. The fortifications and former industrial surroundings broaden the route beyond ceramics. Allow an afternoon for the extended version, especially if you plan to read the passage and sit down for food.
